Things that are awesome:   Hippos... Sure they have a bad rap for being vicious at times, but I choose to believe there must be SOME goodness within. After all, look at their tiny ears and cute little feet! And they are so sweet with their babies- there are so many cute videos on youtube.  My dad bought me a stuffed hippo when I was in the hospital a few years ago, and I have been a staunch fan ever since. .. So there.

Book Review: .. I'd give this one an 8/10, simply because I didn't agree with all the contents. Basically, the story of an English girl raised in India who loses her mother tragically and is sent back to her home country to attend a boarding school.  Starts having visions of the future, and discovers a way to enter the spiritual realm... Like I said, the contents are a bit controversial (e.g. they go to visit a spiritualist...), but I did appreciate how they book portrayed that messing with the spiritual world can be a dangerous thing, and something that seems innocent at first can end up wreaking tragedy... The historic picture it painted of boarding school and a woman's life in the 1800's was fascinating too.  Anyone with a firm grip on their Bible would be safe reading this, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone too impressionable...

Things that are awesome: ... Family bowling night.  Although I'm definetly NOT gifted when it comes to this game, Country Lanes in Excelsior has 10-12 unlimired bowling on Saturday nights which is super fun.  Mybrother, sister, Aaron, my parents and I all went, so we had two different games going at once.  My sister and I "crazy bowled" the first round, and then tried to seriously play afterward.  My arm is a little sore today, but all the laughing we did definetly made it worth it.  Yay for family time!!

Things that are awesome: ... Friends coming to faith in Jesus.... One of my sister's longtime friends (now a friend to the whole family) prayed to ask Jesus into her life last night.  It's been many years of praying for her, so it was so exciting! Praise God!! :)

Things that are awesome: ... NOT drinking on New Years Eve.  Although I've definetly partied in previous years, this year I decided to stay home and lay low.  I enjoyed the evening immensely, got a good nights sleep, and woke up WITHOUT a hangover the next day. Yay!!

Book Review: ... About a 7/10 on the awesome scale.  The beginning of the book was fascinating, but the last 1oo pages or so got bogged down in legal detail that I ended up skimming through.  Basically, the story of a women who opened an anorexia treatment facility in Canada, claiming to offer a "miracle cure" for patients who had tried the traditional hopsital treatment model.  This Montreux Clinic became internationally famous in the media; news programs, and even Oprah lauded it several different times. However, after awhile secrets came out about the REAL goings on at the clinic (force-feeding patients, preventing patients from leaving, untrained staff, etc...) that lead to it's being closed down.  A fascinating picture of how the media can be dangerous when uninformed, and how things are not always as they seem.  Anyone interested in psychology or health care would find this book (at least the first part) fascinating.
