Verse of the Day:“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” John 4:24 MSG

Book Review: ... Just finished this one today. DEFINETLY one of my new favorites- I'd give it a 9/10 at least.  Basically the story of five different high school seniors and their parents, as they struggle to get into various Ivy League schools.  Switching back and forth from different perspectives and then weaving the stories together, it definetly is a fast and compelling read.  I am SO glad I wasn't smart enough to have to worry about Harvard or Yale. Check it out!!

Verse of the Day: "And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way." (Eph 6:12)

Book Review:  Definetly a 10/10 on the awesome book scale- one of my favorites of all time.  This memoir tells the story of a girl who grew up with very non-conventional parents- an artist mom and a brilliant dad with an alcohol problem... The story of her childhood is unlike any I've ever heard, and the advertures in the book will keep you on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last. I read it on my own and then I've read it once to each of my parents, and they both love it too. Check it out!!

Verse of the Day: "So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud no to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet yes to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet." James 4:10 MSG

Verse of the Day: "Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies"Philippians 4:8 MSG

Things that are awesome:  ... Colorful pants.  The big thing this season, and while I am not brave enough for the REALLY bright colors, some of the falll tones are super fun.  I have a maroon and a turqouise pair, both corduroy, so they are SUPER soft too!  Definetly fun to break out of the jean rut every once in awhile!

Verse of the Day: "Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him, saving your critical comments for yourself. You might be needing forgiveness before the day’s out. Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ’s law. If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived." Galatians 6:1 MSG

Things that are awesome: ... Just saw this for the first time today with Jen.  SOO GOOD!! Even though I was skeptical that 3 hours of continuous singing woudln't grow tiresome, I was proven delightfully wrong in this case.  The music was great!! And I loved the way this version told the story- they picked great people to play the different characters, and portrayed Christianity (e.g. the priest) and various Christian themes (grace, redemption, sacrifice..) really well. Definetly see it if you haven't already!

Verse of the Day: "If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open. James 1:5 MSG

Things that are awesome:  .. Bunheads. I know I"ve mentioned this show before, but it went away on a break for awhile, and it just came back, and I"m so excited!! It's better than ever; the characters are hilarious and compelling, and the dances are fun to watch too! Check it out!!

Book Review:  8/10 on the awesomeness scale- this was definetly a compelling mystery tale.  The story begins with a woman fleeing the scene of a car accident, and when caught by police, she claims to be one of the Bethany sisters who disappeared in an abduction case 30 years before.  Going back and forth and telling the story from the perspectives of the woman, her two parents, and several different police officers, it ends in a way you would NEVER see coming.  If you're in the market for a mind boggler, this is definetly the book for you!

Verse of the Day: ““Don’t bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. This isn’t a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we’re in. If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?” Matthew 7:7-8 MSG

Things that are awesome:  ... Reading aloud with others.  Although I am a solitary reader most of the time, over the past couple years I've started reading books with both my parents (my mom likes me to read her to sleep at night, and my dad likes to take turnjs reading aloud in the car or at the kitchen table) and I've learned to really enjoy this form of reading too! It's fun to hear what other people think about books, and hearing my parents laughter at funny moments fuels mine. :) It's fun to pay back the favor by reading to them, as they used to read to me when I was little. :)

Verse of the day: “Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.” Galatians 6:7-8 MSG

Things that are awesome: ... Going out to breakfast on a Monday morning.  Like most people, I HATE mondays.  However, going out to breakfast before facing the beginning of a long work week makes things seem just a LITTLE bit brighter.  I did this today on my way to work, and it made my day start so much happier! Yay new fun traditions!

Verse of the Day: “[Faith Under Pressure] Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” James 1:2-3 MSG

Things that are awesome: me:  The "gospel according to Matthew" movie.  We've been watching them with the Sunday School kids as part of our study of Matthew, and even though I've grown up with them and watched them a dozen times, I am always struck by how well the actor portrays Jesus, and how powerful it is to SEE what he did for us on the cross, instead of just reading it in print.  I am so grateful to have this resource!!

Book Review:   ... Def a 9/10 on the awesomeness scale- I woke up at 6:30am the other day for some reason, and the first thing I thought of (instead of going back to sleep) was finishing this.  Basically the story of an epidemic that causes the modern world to sort of... shut down, leaving a woman to take care of her three new stepchildren while her new pilot husband is stranded overseas. Really interesting character development, as well as a fascinating look at how people deal with crises, and how much in daily life we take for granted... Anyone looking for a creative read would definetly like this.
